About Sequins
Sequins are disk shaped beads or discs of plastic or metal that are used for decorative purposes on clothing, jewlery, bags and other accessories. Sequins are sewn onto clothing to add shimmer and reflect light and are available in a wide variety of colors and geometrical shapes. Sequin work done on an outfit adds a delightful sparkle and flair of elegance to it. Prior to development of neon and lighted signs, sequins were also used on billboards and other signage and were called schmaltz.

Sequins are generally stitched flat to the fabric so that they do not move and fall off or they can also be stitched at only one point, so that they dangle and move easily to catch more light. Although coins are still used as sequins in some cultures, modern sequins tend to be made of plastic. Sequins may also be referred to as spangles, paillettes, or diamantes.
