Paisley is a pattern which is defined as a droplet-shaped vegetable motif of Persian and Indian origin. This pattern also resembles half of the Yin yang symbol. At times , this symbol is referred to as "Persian pickles" by American traditionalists, especially those who are engaged in quilt making. In modern French, paisley is referred to as boteh and palme, which further signify palm tree. As the paisley design is inspired and drawn from the palm leaf design and has since then been a motif to designate the same. |

These paisley scarves can work magic with virtually any attire in your wardrobe, from bright pinks to dark reds, and are a perfect segue piece for day-to-night. Available in varied colours of flame orange, fuschia, hot pink, lilac, aqua marine and turquoise, paisley scarves are a delightful possession. Here is a guide to make charismatic paisley scarves on your own:
- Grab some Paisley silk, cotton batting and cashmere. Cut the silk into an 8-by-36-inch piece. Cut the cotton batting and cashmere to match the silk piece. Spread the cashmere with face up to silk face down on top of it, now, spread the cotton batting over the silk and pin all the three fabrics together.
- Sew around three sides, leaving behind one short end open and then clip the corners, and turn right-side out. Press the seams flat and press in the open end's seam 1/2 inch.
- From the sewed end of the scarf, mark a 3-inch-long line, centered and about 5 inches in from the end to serve as the scarf's buttonhole. Use a tight zigzag stitch and sew along one side of the line.
- Once you reach the end, keep the needle inserted in the fabric, lift the foot and turn the fabric. Start your stitching again so that it overlaps the line sewn and sew along the other side of the line. Overlap your stitches again at the end of the line.
- Finally use scissors to cut down the center of the buttonhole and create the opening. Hand-sew the open end shut.
- And your Paisley scarf is ready.
